Outcomes

• Education programs were presented at six area schools.
• Schools received exercise equipment.
• Adult seminars and Saturday classes were lightly attended.

Lives Affected

3,500 students and 250 teachers through school fitness and nutrition activities, 250 parents through seminars and demonstrations, 1,000 individuals through traveling health booth, for a total of 5,000. (Goal was 17,000.)

Cost Effectiveness

Equipment and educational items will be used for several years. The grant was also beneficial to the local economy as the majority of funding was spent in Lawrence County.

Advice to Other Organizations Starting a Similar Program

Participation - no matter how many incentives you offer - seems to be an issue, so coordinating with target groups in your community is essential to the success of your project. Research the organizations that might be interested in your program, develop a relationship with their leaders and plan your activities according to their schedules.
