Promotoras de Salud (Health Promoters) program assists the Hispanic and Latino community in Central Arkansas in learning healthy lifestyle skills. |
Outcomes
- Identified and trained 10 highly qualified individuals from the target population to serve as health promoters in their community.

435 Hispanic and Latino individuals were referred to public health clinics at no or reduced cost.

705 Hispanic/Latino individuals were provided information on screening and health education.

685 Hispanic/Latino individuals were assessed for understanding of such various health indicators regarding early cancer detection, diabetes, high blood pressure and STDs.

565 Hispanic/Latino individuals were provided translation and transportation services for obtaining medical care services.
Lives Affected
Roughly 1,100 economically or culturally disadvantaged Hispanic/Latino individuals were provided educational, referral, transportation, translation and medical care services.
Cost Effectiveness
Health promoters provide a way that language-challenged Hispanic/Latino individuals can plug into health services before developing acute medical problems.
