Reduced by 23.5% the number of diabetic patients treated at Boston Mountain Health Center with a BMI of greater than 30.
-
Conducted self-management course with 55 participating patients.
-
Screened children for obesity in public schools of Van Buren and Searcy counties.
-
Developed nutritional education material for adolescents at risk.
-
Began initial screening for adolescent depression.
Lives Affected
Over 300 patients received direct interventions and treatment programs regarding nutrition management and control over chronic diseases related to obesity (e.g. diabetes).
Cost Effectiveness
Became able to efficiently identify obese patients and flag them for follow-up treatment programs and continued intervention. The obesity registry helps target families to receive newsletters that contain health information beneficial to their needs as well as provide lists for follow-up calls. The most notable outcome is how effectively it has been in decreasing patient BMI and hemoglobin AIC in diabetic patients.
