Project Description: |
|
Prenatal Access program serves low-income expectant mothers in Washington County. |
Outcomes
- Obtained agreement from the four primary OB/GYN clinics in Washington County to participate and accept referrals from Prenatal Pathways.
-
653 expectant women from underserved populations in Northwest Arkansas accessed needed medical care.
-
As a result of targeted media campaign in local Hispanic news print and radio, 61 percent of the 653 women reached through the program were Hispanic or Marshallese.
Lives Affected
653 expectant women from normally underserved populations.
Cost Effectiveness
Women with proper prenatal care are less likely to have pre-term births, low birth weight babies and fewer neonatal days, thus generating average hospital claims of only $1,589 compared to $3,930 in claims associated with those with poor prenatal care. Prenatal Pathways saved hospital charges of over $1,528,673.
