Project Description: |
|
Clinic provides dental services for underserved people in south Arkansas. |
Outcomes
- Pain Relief -- contracted with four area dentists to provide services in their offices; others volunteer to work at the Interfaith Clinic when available.
-
Education -- prepared media ads and printing of brochure as well as presentations at nine elementary schools.
-
Prevention -- conducted initial assessments and cleaning on adults and children.
-
Oral Health Coalition -- formed with area providers and school districts.
Lives Affected
Pain Relief -- 183 patients.
Education -- 973 students.
Prevention -- 100 children and 100 adults.
Oral Health Coalition -- Met quarterly.
Cost Effectiveness
Actual cost per patient has been much less than budgeted, primarily because most patients are seen by volunteers at the Interfaith Clinic rather than through private in-office visits. Coalition has improved relationships between providers and those in need, and has made the Union County Dental Society more willing to discuss ways to address the oral health problems in the area.
