Project Description: |
|
North Arkansas Wellness Initiative program provides education about risky lifestyle behaviors and health related costs for the youth, residents and workforce in north Central Arkansas. |
Outcomes
- Opened new Community Health Resource Center.

Conducted 41 classes on tobacco cessation, walking clubs, health lifestyles, and weight or stress management.

Started health councils in two schools.

Developed a Community Health Resource Center Directory.

Expanded the on-site tobacco intervention programs offered at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center and North Arkansas College.

Offered 92 programs on Healthy Lifestyles.

Offered 8 professional continuing education programs, attracting 450 health-care professionals.

Assisted a policy change to tobacco-free policy at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center and several local restaurants and entertainment venues.

Initiated wellness/intervention programs at several large businesses in Boone County.
Lives Affected
2,700 persons attended Health Lifestyles programs, 350 clients referred to providers through the Resource Directory, and 250 employees participated in wellness assessments.
Cost Effectiveness
The seed money from the grant leveraged other in-kind and financial contributions from local media, UAMS / AHEC, Kersh Wellness, local college and providers.
