Arkansas Asthma project focuses on teaching children how to gain control of their condition. |
Outcomes
- Trained 118 school nurses, 17 respiratory therapists and 6 Delta AHEC (Area Health Education Center) personnel.

Completed OAS (Open Airways for Schools) training in 15 new schools and 2 existing schools.

In-service training to 216 teachers.

Overall, laid cultural groundwork in school setting to raise awareness of available ways to better manage the disease of asthmatic children.
Lives Affected
579 school parents and 323 children.
Cost Effectiveness
“Teach the teacher” approach allows Lung Association to maximize time to reach more people with the help of others. This grant allowed the Association to re-negotiate cheaper rates for asthma materials and medical supplies.
