Project Description: |
|
Dental treatment supplies for the Healthy Kids - Healthy Smiles program provides a sealant program to area elementary schools. Mostly 2nd thru 6th grade students who lack financial resources. |
Outcomes
- Seven community dentists and 14 hygienists volunteered their time for the program.
-
Dental screenings were performed, sealants applied when applicable, and fluoride treatments given.
-
It was projected that the program would place over 400 sealants; instead 91 sealants were placed.
Lives Affected
265 second and sixth grade children from the Spradling and Tilles Elementary schools were visited and told about the Healthy Kids-Healthy Smiles program. Of these 265 children, 23 actually participated in the program in which 91 sealants were placed.
Cost Effectiveness
Since the projected number of children did not participate in Healthy Kids-Healthy Smiles, there was a surplus of supplies left unused. Because the dental hygiene program was unable to offer another sealant program, those supplies were authorized to be given to another dental program that will be able to utilize the unused materials.
