Project Description: |
|
EncorePlus program is designed to reduce the Arkansas mortality rate of breast and cervical cancer. |
Outcomes
- Provided screening reminders for mammograms to 2,004 women.
-
Directed, through referrals, 504 women to medical providers who can provide screening services at a reduced or no cost.
-
Referred 252 women to organizations to provide financial help for the cost of screening.
-
Offered free transportation to 96 women for their appointment to be screened.
Lives Affected
A total of 2,856 low income women received services.
Cost Effectiveness
The screening services resulted in early-diagnosis of breast or cervical cancer for more than 15 women a year. Such early detection and treatment saves health-care costs of at least $75,000 which would have gone for late-stage treatment for such cancer if not detected early.
